On Tuesday we heard there was a Typhoon coming towards our house so we decided to end our vacation a few days early to catch a Space Available flight into Kadena and batten down the hatches. On Wednesday we spent the day taking trains to get to Atsugi Naval base were there was a flight leaving early Thursday morning. We got everything ready and at the crack of dawn started our 2 mile walk with luggage and kids in tow to the passenger terminal, only to find out that 5 Marines also needed to get back to Kadena. So there was 1 slot available and Corey needed to get back before his leave was up so he got lucky and flew home. At the terminal they didn't ask for any paperwork or ID and Corey was able to get on and go. You can kind of see where this is going. After he left Amy checked at the desk to make sure everything was in order for her to get on 1 of the 3 flights leaving on Friday. They told her she needed the leave paperwork, Her ID and passports. What?? Passports? We were taking a domestic flight. No need for that, Right? Apparently, Amy's ID works fine for her, but because the children don't have ID's the terminal uses their passports to verify their identity and to ensure we are not stealing kids. With a somewhat confusing ordeal at the passenger terminal Corey had to get up and leave quickly. With him, he carried the Laptop, checkbook and wait the Passports along with all of the know how to get around Tokyo! So as you may have guessed it, Amy is stuck in Tokyo with the kids, no car, no license and as mentioned...no passports. Luckily Amy has her ID and a Debit card to survive. She is temporarily housed at the Navy lodge there at Atsugi and is waiting for the passports to arrive via mail because of course they won't except anything other than the real passport, not even a faxed copy of it. What a great family vacation!

oh my gosh! I hope you make it home soon! Love you guys!
Yikes. That pegs the "up the creek" meter at a 10. I hope you guys all arrive safe and sane once you get home. Hopefully some day you'll be able to laugh about this one.
Oh Amy! I'm feeling for you! I hope you make it back soon! What an end to the trip, and now the typhoon probably wont get us! I'm thinking about you guys!
Ok so can I just say that this would only ever happen to you! What in the world! Anyway at least you have an excuse to go and spend some money now with out complaints from Corey right? haha Hope you guys get back soon.
Amy,
I was just laughing with Jeremy last night because in 4 years in Okinawa we made it on ONE space A flight!! I got stuck in Hawaii and Jeremy was flying a jet back so he left Joseph and I there (I was pregnant with Jessie). We stayed in billeting on base and ended up buying commercial tickets back to Okinawa!! I feel your pain. Let us know when you get back. Your pictures are wonderful. I wish we could have gone on the trip together.
Aaauuugghh!!!! I feel your pain. Kind of. We're stuck in Guam...we've been trying to fly back since Sunday (it's now Tuesday), Ed's leave ends tomorrow, and hopefully in about 15 minutes they will start roll call for the last KC-135 to Kadena. What a mess. Hope you made it home by now. We drove to the terminal on Kadena on Thursday and parked next to your car. We left again to go get lunch and when we came back your car was gone. We just knew you'd made it back...apparently not. Love ya!
