Turkish Ball

I had the great pleasure about a week ago to attend the Turkish ball on the NATO garrison here in Izmir. It was a chance for all of the officers and enlisted who work on the garrison to get together and have a pretty good celebration for the 87th year of the Republic (Turkish Republic that is). They put on a huge spread and had plenty to go around. And then their were the deserts. Those were pretty good as well. Part of the deal was that we had to get dressed up in our Mess Dresses. Luckily I had been forewarned and ensured my uniform was 1. with me and 2. up to date. That required about $100 worth of upgrades to the uniform. Man stuff is expensive. Anyway I had a really good time. There was a live Turkish Army band that played and after them, a local university put on a show with the customary Turkish dances. Pretty cool to see the "Whirling Dervish". The only down side of the night was Amy wasn't able to attend with me as these things are always pretty fun to have your wife with you.

Col Lucki Fank (German AF). He is perhaps one of the coolest dudes here at Izmir. He is my boss, non-US business that is.

Major Osman Sirin. He is with the Turkish Air Force and fly's an F-16. Usually we give each other a lot of crap (jokingly) about which fighter is better.

Lt Col Pieniek and Me. He is the only Polish officer here at Izmir. He and I work together in the Operations branch.
